Busy biking

Unlike anywhere else I've lived, if it's a cloudy day we pull our boots on and head outdoors. If it's windy, even better as that keeps the nasty sandflies abay.

Today it was time for cycling, Sofia had a date in Muara park. It's a really sympathetically landscaped multipurpose park not far from us. The playground is great, and an adequate cycle track for a three year-old follows the seashore. There are some great play parks around the country but somehow none of them have any shade. (Although, at least the slides are mostly tube types - bum doesn't burn that easily, unlike in Helsinki last summer!) And we certainly are not morning people so they often are left a mystery to our family. Hence the importance of clouds - at least some protection from the blazing sun. But not to worry, it wasn't cold! Sweat trickled down my back all the same and I wasn't even cycling. Marvellous - accepting to live here equals accepting to lower your personal standards somewhat!

Before we moved here someone recommended to bring bikes, so our mountain bikes and the trailer were packed in the container taking space from so many other items. I'm not quite sure where these people had gone cycling but our bikes have been out of the shed maybe five times... And the trailer works as a handy shoe cubby! Road cycling is very popular but since most people seem to cycle on the motorway, I don't feel that comfortable taking Sofia out! In this hilly country mountainbiking scene is certainly well hidden as I only know running routes in the jungle but nothing for cycling. But Sofia's balance bike has luckily had more outings, and she's really confident on it. Next time we use our other route with big hills I need to take a video. She goes down like a wind - and uses her break confidently. I'm sure we won't need stabilisers; balance bike job well done.
